According to Branch and Merrill, pioneers in Instruction Design, training curriculum must be Learner-Centered, Goal Oriented, and focused on Real-World Performance.  It also must have Measurable Outcomes validated by Empirically captured data. To do that requires a Team Effort.

The Galileo team collaborates with your team to determine practical learning goals.  Depending on budget, time requirements, and other variables, we employ different Instructional Design Models to meet the goals and outcomes of each project.  From the tried and true ADDIE model to SAM, ASSURE, and Gagne, to Rapid Instructional Design, we use the most appropriate instruction model for the job.

Course

Development

Rogers and Taylor describe Course Development as “all the ways in which teaching or training organization plans and guides learning.”

Simply put, the word “curriculum” is the collection of subjects that make up the course of study.

Developing that course of study is a step-by-step process that takes into account more than just content. Teaching techniques and strategies like active or blended learning, improve student’s learning experiences. Curriculum developers describe the required teaching methods, then plan and guide learning.

BLENDED

LEARNING

Simply put, Blended Learning is the use of Instructor-led classes and Learner-controlled activities.  These "learner-controlled" activities usually come in the form of eLearning or some other computer-based tools, like simulators, for example. These methods are generally used to minimize classroom time by covering, mostly, basic information before arriving in a classroom.  They are also used as a follow-up after the class.  Traditional

Blended Learning has been around for a long time.

It's a little different today, however.  Web 2.0 has brought us a whole new set of tools that can augment traditional learning delivery.  Blogs, wiki's, RSS feeds, Social Networking, On-demand Video, Podcasts, and Webcasts are all potential resources to deliver learning content.

DEMONSTRATION VIDEO

For most people, our most often used sense is sight.  In fact, 83% of what sighted people perceive is from what they see (hearing comes a distant second at 11%). Arguably, the most effective form of learning something is by doing.  The second most effective way is watching someone perform the task while they are explaining what they are doing and why.

You probably use video demonstration today.  If you have worked on your car, tried your hand at home remodeling, or cooked a gourmet meal that you have never tried before, chances are you've watched a video.  When you did, were you better prepared for the task?   Our guess is you probably were.

Video is an excellent resource that can be used for initial learning and later to refresh and reinforce the learned skills and behaviors.

TRAINING

One of the most underutilized assets technology and services companies have are their technical resources.  Yes, they are generally swamped and stretched very thin but have a unique intrinsic value; because they don't carry the same perceptions that many salespeople do, the technical resources are generally viewed by your customers as an "honest broker." When your customer is more comfortable with the team as a whole, they are more likely to buy from you.

With the right knowledge, communication skills, and understanding of the sales process, many technical resources can help your customers feel more comfortable with your company and the decisions they make buying your products.
